The anchorages on St. Thomas – South Coast:

Overview

Cowpet Bay is a magnificent little condominium community on the island of St. Thomas in United States Virgin Island. It has four condos with its beach exuding a one-of-a-kind ambiance. This exceptional atmosphere carries on to its crystal-clear water that sparkles in the sun. Also, the peaceful beach is bordered by coconut trees, which gives it a candidly tropical charm.  The water at the beach is usually very calm, and the central swimming area is sandy, making it suitable for small children.

General Information

Cowpet Bay consists of Cowpet East, Cowpet West, Anchorage, and the Elysian resort. These condominiums are most times rented out to tourists who want to live on the beach. The condo complexes on Cowpet are on a hilly area in front of the beach, to the East and West of the beach. The sides of the beach are rocky and great for snorkeling. This area has a lot of bars and restaurants for visitors. It also offers the option to indulge in watersports at the bay. Cowpet is a favorite of tourists for the quiet convenience it provides.

The snorkeling at Cowpet will have you swimming with stingrays, starfish, urchins, sharks, big fish, and schools of smaller fish.

 Where to Anchor

Cowpet Bay is 8 to 21 feet deep and 0.3 miles wide between Water Point and Deck Point. Cowpet Anchorage protects the boat during moderate weather. There are no mooring buoys available here.  It is advisable to anchor to the Eastern side of the bay; 50 yards or more offshore, well away from the swimming area. There is limited anchoring on the sandy bottom of the anchorage.
