Overview
Little St. James is a small private island located southeast of Great Saint James, in the United States Virgin Islands. This island is located off the coast of St. Thomas and belongs to the subdistrict East End of St. Thomas Island. Navigation
It takes less than 30 minutes from St. Thomas to the islet of Little St James by boat. Taking a charter is the best way to enjoy the island but you can also choose to take a seaplane for the view.
Where to Anchor
Boats coming to this islet can anchor at Dog Island Cut or St. James Cut. Watch out for the submerged rock at the north entrance to Dog Island Cut. Its mid-channel has a depth of at least 10 feet and should be used by small boats with local knowledge. St. James Cut is a channel in St. Thomas situated between Great St. James and Little St. James. It is southeast of Nazareth and is found close to Welk Rocks. St. James Cut has a depth of 18 to 30 feet and can be utilized by other types of vessels. Take caution to avoid Welk Rocks on the east and the Stragglers on the west. Also, take note that about 125 yards northwest of the northeast point of Little St. James Island is a reef that extends from the rock awash.

Diving
The Ledges of Little St. James is a dive site where you can see various types of marine life like Large Lobsters, Puffer Fishes, Octopuses, Green Sea Turtles, and Eagle Rays, etc. There are also the towers of Pillar Coral reef which are spectacular and make this location a favorite. This site is an excellent place for all types of divers, novice to experienced ones. The current in the area is typically low, and the visibility is excellent.
Island Hopping
You can visit neighboring diving sites like Stragglers Rock, Christmas Cove, Turtle Cove, Calf Rock, Andres Reef, where you get to see different types of marine life. If you Stay on St. Thomas Island, take a trip to the neighboring St. John’s island, where you can see historical monuments.
Sailing and Snorkeling
When you stop at little St. James, make sure to pack your gear and go underwater to see the unique underwater rock formations in the area. These rock formations create a perfect home for, turtles, stingrays, and octopuses. A full or half-day sail will provide you with premium entertainment and value for money around little Saint James.
