Crew Information
Captain: Chris Tighe
Captain Chris Tighe first learned to sail as a youngster at summer camp on the coast of Mississippi. Chris spent a college semester sailing, kayaking, and surfing in the Florida Keys, Panama and Costa Rica with outward bound. Chris earned certifications in sailing, SCUBA, Kayaking, Whitewater rescue and learned to love the ocean. Chris spent time in Charleston and St. Augustine sailing on larger keel boats and chartering in the Caribbean with his family. Chris holds a USCG captain’s license and with his father and brother co-founded Summerwind Sailing initially working out of St. Augustine, Florida. Chris is talented, kind, generous and a wonderful person to be leading the Summerwind team in the Caribbean.
Marty Tighe with his sons, Christopher and Brendan, co-founded Summerwind Sailing. Marty spent the last 16 years ocean sailing at breathtaking locations around the world. He has crossed the Atlantic, sailed twice from Tahiti departing form both New Zealand as well as from California. Marty sailed from Southampton, England to Majorca in the Mediterranean. In the US, Marty has sailed from Maine to Miami and from New York to Bermuda. Marty has more than 25,000+ ocean miles under various keels. In addition, Marty is accomplished in ocean swimming have swam the Golden Gate Bridge three and three times from Alcatraz. After retiring from his 40-year career in the customer service industry, Marty cofounded Summerwind Sailing in St. Augustine with his sons to share their love of the ocean with thousands of others.
